Dog Trainers in Miami Tip of the Day

Essential to all species is communication, understanding, clarity, empowerment and compassion.4 These universal traits transcend specie, class, group, color, and religion. These are the fundamentals upon which life and learning can flourish in a healthy environment.

The glue holding this all together is trust, which is the essence of understanding and connection.

Conversely, pain, bullying, force, and intimidation are ways to subvert your opponent who you no longer consider equal or respect. This comes along with misunderstanding, judging and condemnation often found in unhealthy lives filled with higher stress levels and discomfort. Force is the punishment of another for ones lack of teaching skills and education.

“The purpose of freedom is to create it for others”

Bernard Malamud

What destroys trust with your dog? (Cesar Millan)

The latter scenario is where outdated traditional or balanced dog trainers, trumpet euphemistic “corrections”. Failing to responsibly adhere to the humane hierarchy of dog training and behavior modification put forth by world renowned scholars and practitioners who have dedicated their lives to animal behavior is irresponsible and abusive1. “Corrections” Abuse is imposing one’s force and domination over another individual in a misguided attempt to “dominate” a dog. This stems from a lack of skill and understanding about the heterospecifics behavior and cognitive ethology. Long lasting, healthy relationships are not grounded in bullying, confrontation and subjugation of another. Dominance theory has long been denounced, yet some ignorant “respected irresponsible companies” still practice and promote it.

Learning shouldn’t be scary or hurt and has nothing to do with dominance theory.2 As Steven Colbert would suggest, dominating your dog is analytical truthiness. It sounds like the truth. It could be the truth. But…..it’s not the truth! The sooner we are all on the same page; animals will be much healthier and happier.

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

– Martin Luther King

PS: In light of MLK above quote and the Miami Beach Polo match; I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the unfit conditions for the horses. We witnessed horses baking in the blazing hot sun when not being forced to be ridden and to “play” on the field with no access to shade or water. Additionally, horses were not substituted out very often and allowed to rest, after running full speed in extreme and unfit conditions. We timed roughly every 10 minutes. You would think the animal abuse advocate Liam Neeson was reffing the game. This is a travesty and shameful. What is the difference between this and the Iditarod? Nothing! Animals do not belong in extreme sports. Draw your own conclusions.
