Pets’ Trust Follow Up: Dog Training Miami
It doesn’t happen very often that I feel there is something to be proud of here in Miami, but this is one of those rare moments and a great first step for Miami, a municipality that is not known for its progressive nature, animal rights laws or activists. The Pets’ Trust is one small step for cats and dogs and one giant step for sentient beings. As Pink Floyd, one of the best bands of all time, poetically and aptly opined
“On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words woofs and meows they say
Which we won’t understand
Don’t accept that what’s happening
Is just a case of others’ suffering
Or you’ll find that you’re joining in
The turning away ….
No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It’s not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there’ll be
No more turning away?
Fun Paw Care is in full support of the Pets’ Trust, nonetheless it is vital to put the horse before the cart before any “expectations” of a national model get launched. Funding and the grass roots troops who gave up their precious free time, hearts, money and energy came from our local community and that is where the Pets’ Trust will continue to be supported. From the mouth of Seth Godin to the Pets’ Trust ears, (the bolding is my doing)
How I broke my nose (for the second time)
The first time was youthful bravery–I was playing hockey with people far better than I (not older, merely better) and they slammed me into the boards. That’s something almost heroic, at least when you’re twelve.
No, the second time was two days ago. I finished a delightful breakfast with a friend and as I walked out of the restaurant, I focused on the door to the street and the weather outside–and completely ignored the interior plate glass door, slamming right into it at full speed.
The important lesson: while it matters a lot that you have a goal, a vision and an arc to get there, it matters even more that you don’t skip the preliminary steps in your hurry to get to the future. Early steps might bore you, but miss even one and you might not get the chance to execute on the later ones.
My nose is fine, thanks, better every day, but the reminder was a worthwhile one.
Now that Miami residents have resoundingly spoken by voting in the November 6th election demanding an end to the killing of our pets, it is time to get down to business and make that dream come to fruition!
Ugg, Liars Politicians
As many of you already know, politicians, in our case Miami Dade commissioners and the Mayor, are a fickle bunch of lads and lasses that don’t always do the right, ethical or moral thing, gasp! Their promises are sometimes (most of the times) are empty, don’t come true and are just hollow words. In addition as you may also know, the Pets’ Trust was a straw poll, meaning a vote with nonbinding results until the law makers enact it into law.
You may be thinking, why run a straw poll at all? Why wasn’t this an actual law/ordinance that was scheduled to go into effect immediately? Is it too presumptuous to assume that this would go into law if the majority of residents voted for this? Those would all be intelligent, rational, obvious questions, with seemingly obvious answers, so no, the commissioners wouldn’t choose that! Commissioners and most politicians, (in our dysfunctional world) don’t want to risk their constituents/hides (aka their funding / jobs / lobbyists) even if it means, doing the right, ethical, or moral thing. Their obligation to the dollar and their job/tenure is sadly more important to them than saving any lives or doing the right thing. It is what any rational person would define as dysfunctional, corrupt and immoral, selfish behavior. In the bygone days of ole, doing the right thing was a given and the decisions about the fate of a community were in the hands of the residents by way of democracy. Helping the most people and animals in the most fair and democratic way, but this is long gone. Today, that is a pipe dream. The reality is in the colloquial expression, the “fat lady has not sung” and we as a community still have a lot of work to do. Make no mistake about it, if past is prologue, this fight to erect and institute the Pets’ Trust isn’t over yet, conversely it has just begun.
The Pets’ Trust
WE have passed some major hurdles and the public has spoken in volumes, to the tune of around 500,000 people and 65% of the voters! The majority screamed “We’re Not Gonna Take It” – Anymore”, from Dee Snider’s famed 80’s band, Twisted Sister.
Fun Paw Care has taken the liberty of scribing a reprint of the Pets’ Trust agenda to attract more passionate, animal loving neophytes and professionals willing to go head to head with our seasoned government officials. The plan is to arouse the public by means of our passion, to be acknowledged and to create the change that we so desperately envision and need in Miami! Here is what the Pets’ Trust is proposing:
Our next step is to build an army of 10,001 Miamians, the corp of Pets Trust Ambassadors who will help us maintain the tremendous momentum we’ve gained in this election!
To join the 10,001 Miamians, you must:
- understand the problem of cat and dog overpopulation in Miami-Dade County
- be committed to solutions that will stop the killing of 20,000 + adoptable pets each year
- stand ready to communicate the facts whenever necessary
- contribute your energy, ideas, skills and time
- participate as much as you are able
Our database of volunteers currently includes 375 names and email addresses. If each one of us adds 27 participants to our organization, we will quickly build our core of 10,001 Miamians. And most of us know more than 27 people who care about this cause and would love to help. Think about it… nearly half a million people voted to pay more taxes to help save the animals!
Hopefully, the 10,001 Miamians will not have to go into action very often. But, if the Pets’ Trust faces political inaction, this army of 10,001 will be asked to turn lose with a barrage of emails and phone calls to make sure we are HEARD.
Our goal is to reach 10,001 by Thanksgiving … so we have a challenge that fits perfectly into the next two weeks. We have already shaken up the world once…let’s do it again.. 10,001 email addresses of people who care by Thanksgiving.
Here is the information we need:
- Email Address
- Phone Number
- Location (specific address is not needed but we’d like to know what area you live or work in)
